a great artist—I give the concert six stars if I could
Seeing Sierra Ferrell and her band in person is an inspiring experience. She has, quite simply, the best voice in popular music (not just country music) today, with amazing range and breath control and always pitch perfect. Her voice was meltingly lyrical when she wanted it to be, but turbo-charged and with a driving, propulsive beat when that's what is called for. Most important, she sings every word as if she really meant it, whether singing one of her own songs—as a songwriter, she has a distinctive way with words and a rare melodic gift—to covering classics that she always found a way to make her own. The band she is touring with matches her in brilliance, musical inventiveness and passion. Together, they made music of great beauty that the audience obviously loved as much as I did.
